Reading Intervention/Dyslexia at Foster Elementary

My name is Teresa Searight and I am the reading intervention/dyslexia teacher at Foster Elementary. I have a daughter, Kaylie in the 8th grade and a son, Matthew in the 4th grade. This is my second year at Foster Elementary and I love my job! I work with students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. I provide additional reading instruction to students needing extra help. Students come to my classroom daily for 30 minutes with their grade level group. I focus on phonemic awareness activities, letter recognition and sounds with Kindergarten students. In my 1st grade groups, we spend a lot of time learning Dolch sight words and rapid word reading. I also help students with spelling and reading fluency. I continue helping my 2nd grade students with sight words, rapid naming and reading fluency. We also work on vocabulary and reading comprehension as well. There are many other things that we work on but this is an overview of my program.

I am also the Dyslexia teacher at Riesel ISD. Many students with Dyslexia are able to attend their classes with very little intervention at all. Other students require more individualized help on a daily basis. Many students with Dyslexia can improve their reading skills with hard work and parental support.
